A testament to perseverance and dedication: Manuj Jindal, IAS

Life is a race. It moves forward, posing new challenges each day.Simply because we falter in one or two areas does not mean that we are all losers. The winner is the one who perceives their vulnerability and seizes the next opportunity. Manuj Jindal also faced several setbacks in life. He acknowledged his flaws and toiled assiduously to create the successful profession he desired.

Manuj Jindal is an IAS officer who scored AIR 53 in the UPSC 2017 examination. He is a TEDx speaker and was an ex-NDA cadet. He has written a book on how to write UPSC responses. He is working as the CEO of Zila Parishad in Thane.

Childhood

Manuj Jindal grew up in an ordinary family, in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Raman Jindal, is a retired bank manager and his mother, Anamika Jindal, is a housewife. He has two brothers.  Manuj attended elementary education in his hamlet and moved to Dehradun for higher studies. Manuj Jindal cracked the National Defence Academy (NDA) exam but could not complete training because of a back injury. He later received a scholarship to study at the University of Virginia in the US, where he earned a degree in commerce.

Following His Dreams

Manuj Jindal joined Barclays in 2010 after his return from the US and worked there for four years. The earnings from that employment went towards repaying his student loans. His educational background was good and he had a respectable career in the corporate sector. He believed that the corporate world was insufficient for him, therefore he decided to go for the UPSC exam to satisfy his desire to help others and establish more connections. He then began preparing for the civil services examination.

Service

Manuj provided services to residents of Bhamragarh, a Naxal stronghold in Gadchiroli, where many people are subjected to special laws restricting their civil liberties. Also, the region has witnessed clashes between Naxal groups and the armed forces, further isolating it from the rest of the country.

For the betterment of tribals

Manuj Jindal has worked on training initiatives for tribal people in India’s northeastern provinces in addition to his job as an IAS officer. Aware of the need for training and education in these areas, he was committed to developing the next generation of tribal leaders for the betterment of these communities.

Arts and Crafts Training Facility

As a means of providing money for the tribal pupils, Manuj transformed the outdated Tehsildar office building into an arts and crafts training facility. The centre offers participants six months of instruction along with a monthly stipend of Rs 3000. They can make money by selling the crafts they produce. Also, the centre offers them free accommodation and food.

Acing the Art of Answer Writing

Manuj is also interested in writing. He has authored a book ‘Acing the Art of Answer Writing’ on UPSC answer writing. Manuj oversees a YouTube channel where he instructs and encourages students on how to get ready for the UPSC exams. Students from diverse backgrounds can learn about UPSC preparation, share their love of reading and studying, and gain insight into their life lessons and experiences through the channel.

Manuj Jindal is a talented person with many aspirations. His dreams brought him to the NDA. Though unable to stay, he didn’t want to abandon his wishes. After higher studies, he got a job in the corporate sector. He left that job as his focus shifted to the IAS. Manuj made three attempts at the civil services test. The first two times, the goal of IAS was at a short distance, but he excelled in his third attempt. He achieved the 53rd rank because of his perseverance and diligence. Jindal emphasises that anything can be overcome with effort and willpower. He mentors the future generation through his Youtube channel, by utilising his experience as an educator, author, and policy adviser.
